Project description

The new production structure of Devnya Cement cement plant began with the new kiln start-up. It is the Bulgarian branch of Italcementi Group, located near the port of Varna in the eastern part of the country.

The new technologically advanced plant is based on a dry process producing about 4,000 tons of clinker a day, for a total of about 1.5 million tons of concrete per year. It is one of the biggest plants of this type working in Europe. The revamping made the plant more efficient and in compliance with the best environmental protection techniques. Some alternative fuels will be used ensuring the energy efficiency and reducing considerably carbon dioxide emissions.

CEAS followed the development of the structural executive project, cooperating with MMM-Building Structures LTD in Sofia, in order to integrate the regulatory approach of the Eurocodes with the Local Regulations. The structural layout was heavily influenced by the plant complexity, limiting considerably the ground floor and above ground floor structures. The structures are very solid because of their considerable height and therefore exposed to strong wind and seismic actions. The detailed design was carried out using the 3D BIM software, with a very high node level detail.
