Project description

In September 2018 Starbucks celebrated the opening of its first Italian store, as well as its most beautiful location in the world: the Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Milan, the flagship of Starbucks global retail presence. It is a place where Italian customers can discover the coffee art and science, in a breath-taking setting designed to pay tribute to Milan and to celebrate what Starbucks has learned about coffee during its 47 years of history.

The Milanese area occupies of 2300 m2 inside the Post Office Building of Piazza Cordusio, just a few steps from Piazza Duomo. The conservative restoration project involved the general redevelopment of the historical building built in 1901 on an architectural project by Mr Luigi Broggi.

In order to have commercial space free from constraints, CEAS designed an impressive metal covering in order thanks to the elimination of the existing pillars on the ground floor. Another challenging intervention was the ground floor slab strengthening, due to the heavy overloads added to the structure containing not only the sales area, but also the big oven to roast coffee.
