Project description

The multimedia library Santa Teresa is the result of a program agreement between four sponsoring bodies: the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, the Lombardy Region, the Province and Municipality of Milan that have contributed to the project. The project dates back to the early 1990s and the structure was opened on 13 June 2003.

According to the project, the Baroque church of Santa Teresa in via della Moscova in Milan, fallen into disuse for a long time, was turned into a place of information and education. Thanks to the Internet, the users can consult documentary, electronic, digital and audiovisual sources, as further information tools in addition to the traditional sources.

All the original walls of the listed building were structurally improved, by strengthening them and recovering the existing vaults. A new basement was created through excavations and underpinning and a new part used as conference room and one with the new installations were added. A steel and glass part used as bookshop and coffee bar was added on the church side.

The colonnade located in via Moscova was recovered under the direct supervision of the Monuments and fine Arts Department. The valuable plasters were restored and some important frescoes were found.

The tender for work, whose structures were designed by CEAS who also carried out the General Works Management, also included the retrofitting of all systems, escape routes and anything else required by Fire Brigade. All the architectural barriers were broken down.
