Over the years the study of the effects of a Tunnel Boring Machine passage near surface structures has been dealt with different methods. The latter have become more and more refined as the mathematical instruments and the information technology potentials increased, and the experience of the works built and the knowledge of the stress-strain behaviour of the ground developed.

The study of these phenomena for the design of a complex work as Milan Metro Line 4 includes different levels of detail according to the importance and the sensitivity of the surface structures affected by the effects of excavations.

The present case refers to a historical building in Corso Venezia in Milan. It consists in a specific in-depth calculation analysis because of its great architectural quality and the potential vulnerability of some parts of the building.
