Renzo Piano Building Workshop RPBW with Ottavio Di Blasi & Partners
Project description
The futuristic and sustainable project, developed by the RPBW Renzo Piano Building Workshop in collaboration with Ottavio Di Blasi & Partners, is part of the comprehensive urban regeneration plan of MilanoSesto. It involves the construction of a 89-meter-long and 18-meter-wide glass and iron footbridge suspended above the existing railway line, connecting two areas historically separated by the tracks: the former Falck areas and Piazza 1° Maggio. This dynamic bridge serves as a pivotal connection point between the underground metro line, railway lines, and road transportation, featuring a photovoltaic roof capable of fully powering the station below. The project also includes amenities for citizens, green areas, and commercial spaces, making it an ambitious endeavor in terms of complexity, scale, and construction timeline, while ensuring the continued operation of the railway throughout the project.
CEAS is currently in charge alongside Prelios Integra Spa of the General and Specialized Construction Supervision of structures, civil works, mechanical, electrical, and special systems, coordinating a complex construction site that progresses in phases to maintain the station and railway operations throughout. Following the completion of the new station, an underground parking lot with 650 parking spaces will be opened. Additionally, the bus station and waiting platform will be refurbished to become an international hub for departures and arrivals from abroad.
