Project description

A redevelopment project in the heart of old Milan: 21 House of Stories, the new hybrid hospitality format on the Naviglio Pavese. The building, a former telephone exchange dating back to the 1960s, was skillfully redesigned by architect Roberto Murgia, transforming the imposing volume into an urban scale harmonious with the context by breaking it down into smaller elements. The main features of the project are the interaction with the historic context of the Navigli, the reference to the sobriety and elegance of Milanese architecture from the 1950s, and the need to give the building its own character.

CEAS, as a member of the design team, enabled the architectural conversion through targeted reinforcement strategies and the inclusion of new seismic-resistant elements that mitigate the impact of the introduction of new volumes on the roof. The result is a modern building – with panoramic terraces overlooking the city’s skyline, yet traditional – thanks to the cladding recalling the plaster of the surrounding residences: the perfect synthesis of 21 House of Stories, where services – a four-star design hotel, coworking spaces, a bistro, and large gathering areas – blend fluidly and innovatively.
